Barnes Coaches of Swindon has taken a pair of Irizar i6 integrals into its 36-strong full-size coach fleet.
The two integrals: a 12.9m two-axle and a 14m tri-axle, will be used on a wide variety of the company’s work, ranging from local runs to extended European tours.
Barnes Coaches can trace its roots back over 100 years, to when the family started a horse-and-cart general carrier business taking passengers and parcels to and from the local railway station. It is now in its fourth generation, and is run by brothers Matt and Luke Barnes.
“We run a mixed fleet and have three different coach suppliers, so as to not have all our eggs in one basket,” Luke explains. “However, we find the Irizar Integral is a firm favourite with our customers: there’s no doubt that passengers prefer Irizars.”
The new two-axle Irizar integral coach features DAF’s MX-11 271 369 hp engine driving through a ZF EcoLife transmission. It has 53 i6 seats, featuring seat-back tables and magazine racks. There is a central sunken toilet and an integrated vacuum cleaner.
