Magelys to be crowned International Coach of the Year
The Iveco Magelys has been voted International Coach of the Year 2016 by the International Bus & Coach of the Year Jury, beating off competition from the Setra TopClass S516HDH, Neoplan Skyliner, Volvo B11R, Sunsundegui SC7, Temsa HD12 and VDL Futura FMD2-129/370. The winner was decided following this year’s Coach Euro Test event, which was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in June.
The Magelys which has a striking, panoramic glazed roof, is available at 12.2m and 12.8m lengths with Magelys Line and Magelys Pro specification.
The vehicle on show in Plovdiv was a Magelys Pro with wheelchair lift and a de-mountable table arrangement enabling drivers to easily help a disabled passenger board without having to remove seats. The vehicle was fitted with 46 Kiel leather seats, toilet, three motorised LCD monitors, Wi-Fi, 220V and USB plugs, GPS and a road camera.
Unlike other Euro 6 models, the Magelys does not use EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) to control engine exhaust emissions, relying instead solely on SCR (selective catalytic
reduction). Powered by a 400hp Iveco Cursor 9 8.7l engine, it delivers torque of 1,700Nm at 1,250 rpm and is matched to a ZF AS-Tronic automated transmission.
Iveco says that fuel consumption is reduced by up to 10 per cent, compared to Euro V, helped thanks to a 200kg weight reduction and optimised aerodynamics.
The trophy will be presented on the Iveco Bus stand at Busworld in Kortrijk. The last Iveco coach to win the International Coach of the Year title was the EuroClass HD in 1995.
